Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries (MADI)

 

Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries (MADI) is an enterprise specializing in the production of light and heavy motor vehicles, component parts and accessories and multipurpose diesel engines.

 

The factories under MADI are

    *    No. (1) Automobile Factory (Yangon)

    *    No. (2) Automobile Factory (Htonbo)

    *    No. (3) Automobile factory (Htaukkyant - Project Stage)

    *    Automotive Component Factory (Inndagaw)

    *    Multi-purpose Diesel Engine Factory (Thagaya - Project Stage)

    *    Earth Moving Equipment Factory (Thagaya - Project Stage)

 

Functions

The Functions of Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries (MADI) are :-

*    to control and supervise the production at various factories under its jurisdiction

*    to oversee that the products of these factories are of high quality standard acceptable to the consumers

*    to undertake the marketing and distribution of the products in competition with the imported and locally produced      

      products

*    to arrange for the proper financial management (utilization of both local budget and foreign exchange allotments)

*    to procure raw materials and component parts effectively and economically

*    to draw up annual production plans and to monitor the productions so as to meet the production targets

*    to negotiate with foreign firms and organizations for technical cooperation or for setting up new industries.

 

Organization

The head of MADI is the Managing Director assisted by the Directors. The factories are managed by respective General Managers.

Range of Products

The production of Hino buses and trucks at No. (1) Automobile Factory (Yangon) started in 1962 with the technical cooperation of Hino Motor Co., Ltd., of Japan. Whereas the production of Light Vehicles at No. (2) Automobile Factory (Htonbo) started in 1973 with the technical cooperation of Mazda Motor Corporation of Japan.

Industrial Training School (Mandalay)

Under the Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries there is an industrial training school (ITS) in Mandalay. The industrial training school was established in February 2000 to train skilled workers needed by the factories located at the Upper Myanmar. It has conducted short term three months training courses both for workers from Mandalay Industrial Zone and the other zones in Upper Myanmar. The training courses cover welding, foundry and machine operation and auto mechanic fields.

 

Starting from 2004, a new Industrial Training Centre is being constructed at the compound of existing training school, with the technical grant given by the People's Republic of China, to train additional courses, such as CAD, CNC Machine Tool Operator, Computer Operator, Electrical Fitter, Electroplating and Surface Treatment, Die and Mould Design and Making etc.

Myanmar Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd., is a joint venture between MADI and Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan. The products are :-
